Light on the Hamoaze
Painted on a bright summer's day, squinting into the shimmering light reflecting off the estuary, this small painting was created using liquid charcoal and oil paint on a white-primed canvas panel.
The liquid charcoal underpainting is glazed over in places to reveal and keep the delicate watercolour-like details in the distance. These are deliberately contrasted with thick oil paint to capture the bright light, especially as it bounces off the water in a shimmering glare.
As always, this painting is created with the best archival materials available. I have even been in email contact with the liquid charcoal supplier, Schminke, to ensure the best practice for using liquid charcoal to ensure it's longevity.
This 24x18cm painting on 3.2mm canvas board is supplied unframed.
