As afternoon slowly faded into evening, the calm of Lake Iseo in northern Italy cannot be understated. Land, lake and sky seem to blend together in subtle shades of blue, but accents of pinkish evening light. Distant towns twinkle across the water, and the lonely island of Monte Isola sleeps. The lazy winds cut shapes and patterns in the lake water, tracing the topography of the surrounding alpine foothills which are echoed in the rising cumulus clouds, fed by the afternoon heat.
A serene and subtle painting, this is one of my favourites.
