The Falling Mountains

£320.00

Painted overlooking Lake Iseo in northern Italy, this painting is a playful capturing of the stratified mountains as they crash into the lake.

Created with the last light of the day, the serene lake waters are a counterpoint to the rough and ancient mountainsides with their steep slopes and linear formation patterns.

I specifically created this piece on a sanded panel, using the smooth surface to push, pull and wipe the paint to utlise the textures of the mountains, sky and lake. I also used a limited colour palette of warm reds and cool blues to capture the shadows in fading light, contrasting them against the reflected light of the pink and red clouds which lit up the mountainside.

40x20cm, oil on white cradled wooden panel which has a depth of 2cm. Unframed, but could be hung without a frame.
