An experimental piece using liquid charcoal and layer techniques, ‘Through the Porthole’ was created on a hot summers day at Mount Wise, Plymouth. Looking out towards Mount Edgcumbe through an opening in the trees, this painting explored the relationship between capturing thinned, warm shadows, and thick, bright highlights, leaving out the middle tones which usually do a lot of work within my paintings.
An important piece in the development of my style, this experimental work is a small and valuable packet on information and artistic development.
Painted in liquid charcoal and oils on 3.2mm canvas panel, this painting measures 18×24cm and is unframed.
